What's the blue Stuff?
Article produced by Mike Russell, manager of Launch and Make Ready, for
Hatteras Magazine, Autumn 2005.
If you have been to the Hatteras facility in North Carolina USA, you've no
doubt found yourself asking "what's the blue stuff all over the boats?"
It's a natural question because the topsides of every boat in the launch and
make ready facility are now covered in a nice bright blue from bow to stern.
The blue material is a protective coating developed just for the boating
industry by Spraylat International. Several European builders already use
the coating which greatly reduces wear and tear on the boats' exterior finish
while final make ready functions are being performed throughout the vessel.
Because of the easy roll-on, peel-off application, use of the material cuts
significant time out of the completion process, due to the reduced cleaning
effort required for final delivery.
Testing has proven the coating to be compatible with the Awlcraft paint
products that Hatteras uses and to withstand severe climate changes coupled with
long exposure to ultraviolet light.
